What all rights do we lose when we give up the Indian citizenship?
India, the seventh-largest country in the world is located in South Asia. It is the second-most populous country in the world.
There are many of the Indians who go to foreign countries (especially to USA, Canada, UAE, Qatar, Australia etc.) as expats to work or study over there. Many of them even want to settle there if the country allows them. After, a period of time, one can apply for citizenship in various countries.
For this, one will need to give up there home country, India’s citizenship. This is a major decision taken by them. The foreign citizenship is not good always.
Here are the rights which will be taken off by Indian government for giving up the Indian citizenship:
The passport of India will be taken up by the government and of course, one will not be able to use it or reapply for it anymore. He/she will use the new passport of the country, he/she got.
The voting rights and the voter ID card will be taken off. They will no longer be eligible to cast their vote.
Right of becoming a politician, or becoming a part of any government body will be taken off.
- Holding constitutional posts
Constitutional posts such as President, Vice-President, judge (of courts) and so on will no longer available for the people who give up their Indian citizenship.
In most of the cases, government jobs are not given to the people giving up their citizenships.
- Purchase of agricultural land
One will not be allowed to purchase any kind of agricultural land or any land to perform agricultural activities. Though, the parental land will be given.
