Indians in North Korea
North Korea, officially the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is a country in East Asia constituting the northern part of the Korean Peninsula, with Pyongyang the capital and the largest city in the country.
This country is considered to be under dictatorship where Kim Jong-Un, the ruler is very strict laying various rules. It is legal for foreigners to work, study or travel in North Korea but under various laws. These laws makes very difficult for expats to go there. It is quite unsafe and miserable there.
Indians do live in North Korea but their population is very less. In the capital, Pyongyang, there is an Indian embassy where we can find Indians as well as a few of them work there. We can also find Indian businessmen/businesswomen living there as India is one of the major trade partner of North Korea providing mostly food, aid and medical stuff. Indian businessmen/businesswomen can be found in Pyongyang, Kimchaek and Sinuiju living there for trade purposes or NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) there. North Korea has decent relations with India. India and North Korea have growing trade and diplomatic relations. India maintains an embassy in Pyongyang, and North Korea has an embassy in New Delhi. India is one of North Korea’s biggest trade partners and a major food aid provider. Many of us don’t know that Indians and Koreans are relatives from ancestors period. the Korean language have 5000 words similar to Tamil language!
